Après un petit vent de folie, qui voit quatre pilotes parvenir en tête de la course à l’issue des quatre premières spéciales, la hiréarchie se dégage avec les deux pilote Ford en tête devant Sébastien Loeb. Les écarts sont très faibles : Marcus Gronholm compte seulement 4"4 davance sur son équipier, alors que Sébastien Loeb conserve toutes ses chances à 20"2 du leader. Chris Atkinson pointe à la quatrième place, alors que Petter Solberg est hors du coup…
