Après une mise en jambes à Oslo la veille remportée par Petter Solberg, qui fête son retour au volant d’une Xsara privée, Sébastien Loeb et Mikko Hirvonen entament un duel à coup de secondes. Le Finlandais mène toute la journée mais c’est le champion du monde qui pointe en tête au terme de l’étape.
